Softball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll Comes Up Short

Hammond Bishop Noll was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Griffith Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Monday.

Molly Whelan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hammond Bishop Noll saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelynn (Maddie) Queen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Hammond Bishop Noll now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Griffith, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammond Bishop Noll will face off against Illiana Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Griffith, they will challenge Hammond Morton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Governors will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
