High school baseball rankings: Reno jumps into MaxPreps Top 25 after winning Boras Classic in Arizona

Big weeks by Reno (Nev.), Jenks (Okla.) and Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) propelled the three teams into this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings.

Reno won the Boras Classic in Arizona, beating nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) and Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.). The Huskies won their first 11 games of the season before dropping the second game of the Anaheim Lions Tournament to La Mirada. Reno comes in at No. 17 with Hamilton at No. 18 and Bishop Gorman No. 19.

Santa Margarita, meanwhile, opened Trinity League play with three straight wins over JSerra Catholic, last year's league champion. The Eagles jumped into the national rankings ahead of Orange Lutheran, which is 5-1 in Trinity League play with a loss to JSerra, at No. 6.

Jenks replaces Owasso as the top team in Oklahoma thanks to a 10-0 start. The Trojans, the defending Class 6A state champions, move into the rankings at No. 20, one spot ahead of Owasso, which lost one game in its yearly trip to Florida.

Dropped out: No. 9 Servite (Anaheim, Calif.); No. 14 Deer Creek (Edmond, Okla.); No. 22 Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.).



Best game: Naples def. Fort Lauderdale, 1-0. The Golden Eagles made a first-inning run hold up thanks to 15 strikeouts by C.J. Bussell in a 1-0 win over Fort Lauderdale.

Coaching Milestone: Larry Turner, Owasso. The longtime Rams coach won his 1,200th career game Monday with a 5-3 win over Lakeland. Turner is the all-time leader in Oklahoma among coaches who only coach in the spring. He is also No. 9 on the all-time national coaching list.

Player of the Week: Jaden Noot, Sierra Canyon. Besides hitting a home run in one of the Trailblazers wins last week, he also struck out 12 to pick up a win in another victory.

Games to watch: Santa Margarita vs. Servite. The Friars fell out of the rankings this week with three losses to Orange Lutheran while Santa Margarita moved in with three wins over JSerra Catholic. Santa Margarita looks to maintain its place in the rankings with a sweep while Servite aims to play spoiler.

Streaks: Roff (Okla.) picked up two more wins last week to raise its national-best winning streak to 48 games in a row. Barbe (Lake Charles, La.) won its 20th game of the season to raise its win streak to 38 games in a row.
