Basketball Recap: Canton Central Catholic Starts Season with Loss at Home

Canton Central Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Austintown-Fitch Falcons by a score of 53-50 on Wednesday. The Crusaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Austintown-Fitch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ej Giles, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 19 points. Those 19 points gave Giles a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Evans, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 15 points.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canton Central Catholic will challenge Ursuline at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Austintown-Fitch, they will take on Garrett Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
