Super Essex - Colonial recap October 8, 2013

Weequahic's Alkadair Ports rumbled for the longest rushing play in Super Essex - Colonial this season in his game against West Milford last week. Ports scampered for 96 yards on the play and finished with 104 on the day as his team topped the Highlanders.

Cedar Grove was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Panthers defeated East Side 46-6.

Erik Zeug provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Montclair Kimberley Academy lost to Glen Ridge. He completed 6 passes for 72 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 73 yards. Zeug's key target this week was Max Hall, who caught 3 passes for 40 yards.

Joe Slattery threw for 124 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 6-6 with 0 interceptions.

Ethan Fusco was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 134 yards as the Cougars fell to the Ridgers. Zeug also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.

Cedar Grove's Slattery and Paul Rufo have formed a dream team this season, leading Super Essex - Colonial in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Slattery has thrown for 879 yards this season, while Rufo has 18 catches for 467 yards. Fusco from Montclair Kimberley Academy leads the league in rushing with 327 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when ed sadloch's team takes on Glen Ridge. As it stands, the Panthers are in third, while Duke Mendez's team is in second.

The Ridgers scaled the state rankings by moving to 244 from 277 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Glen Ridge was able to move up by beating Luke Harris' team 48-27.
