Recap: North Charleston Cougars vs. Philip Simmons Iron Horses
The North Charleston Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 51-30 loss at the hands of Philip Simmons. While losing is never fun, North Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Philip Simmons is ranked 125th).
Despite the loss, North Charleston still got an impressive performance from Taja Porcher, who scored 19 points.
Philip Simmons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Harper Cohen out in front who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cohen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenira Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
North Charleston dropped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Philip Simmons, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Charleston will take on Burke at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Burke focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for Philip Simmons, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Battery Creek at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Battery Creek is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
