Volleyball Recap: Triton Trojans vs. Culver Community Cavaliers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Triton can now relate to. They fell just short of the Culver Community Cavaliers by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September.
Triton was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Culver Community work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 27-25, 24-26, 14-25, 18-16.
Despite the loss, Triton had strong showings from Sierra Hawley, who had 21 digs, and Allie Westafer, who had 12 digs, a kill, and a block. Hawley is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season.
Even though they lost, Triton kept the net locked down and finished the game with 17 blocks. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now had at least seven blocks in ten consecutive games.
Triton's record now sits at 23-11. As for Culver Community, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season.
Triton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Culver Community, they will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Marquette Catholic at 1:00 p.m. Marquette Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Culver Community surely won't give up without a fight.
