Softball Recap: Lake Travis Victorious

Lake Travis won the last time they faced Westlake and things went their way on Friday too. The Cavaliers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Chaparrals 3-2.

Julianna Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Madison Pinzon was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Lake Travis' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-9-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westlake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.

Lake Travis will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Akins at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Westlake, they will head out to square off against Del Valle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
