Preview: New Waverly Bulldogs vs. Tarkington Longhorns
New Waverly is 8-2 against Tarkington since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Waverly Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Tarkington Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
New Waverly's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 67-58 to Onalaska.
Meanwhile, Tarkington unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Crockett by a score of 64-62. While losing is never fun, Tarkington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 703rd, while Crockett is ranked 320th).
New Waverly dropped their record down to 11-20 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Tarkington, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-12.
New Waverly came up short against Tarkington in their previous meeting back in January, falling 66-56. Can New Waverly avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
