Carlyle waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Red Bud Musketeers by a score of 65-54. Given the Indians/Lady Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Musketeers are ranked 465th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carlyle's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points over those games. As for Red Bud, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-20 record this season.

Looking ahead, Carlyle and New Athens will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. New Athens knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Carlyle likes a good challenge. As for Red Bud, they will be playing at home against Sparta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
