Baseball Recap: Pilot Grove Comes Up Short

Pilot Grove extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Eugene Eagles. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Tigers haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for Eugene, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Eugene's part, Chase Richard made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Richard has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jeffrey Schulte was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dalton Mueller, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pilot Grove will venture away from home to challenge Sturgeon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Eugene, they will take on Vienna at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
