Softball Recap: Independence Falcons vs. Bakersfield Drillers
Independence extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 9-17-1. They fell 6-3 to the Bakersfield Drillers. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Drillers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Allison Gutierrez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March.
As for Bakersfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-13. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
On Bakersfield's side, Rylee Arnold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Ryann Arnold was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Teriahna Robertson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
While Independence had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
