Volleyball Recap: Peoria Lions vs. Springfield Southeast Spartans
Peoria was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Springfield Southeast Spartans. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Spartans when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springfield Southeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marc'E Wilson, who had eight kills, three aces, and one block. Those eight kills gave Wilson a new career-high. Josey Grant was another key player, getting seven digs and three aces.
Peoria's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Springfield Southeast, the victory snapped their losing streak at four matches and leaves them with a 6-16 record.
Peoria and Springfield Southeast could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Lions (ranked 617th) will meet Richwoods (ranked 288th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springfield Southeast will take on Jacksonville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (523 vs. 214).
