Football Game Preview: Lopez Lobos vs. Porter Cowboys

The Lopez Lobos will venture away from home to square off against the Porter Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Lopez's last matchup with Mercedes could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Thursday. The Lobos were outmatched by the Tigers and fell 63-17. The Lobos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-10.

Despite the loss, Lopez saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ricardo Saucedo rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Saucedo is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Porter came up short against Edcouch-Elsa on Friday, falling 28-7. The Cowboys have struggled against the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Porter's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Lopez, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Lopez took their victory against Porter in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 31-10 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lobos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
