League recap: Hayesville scores huge upset over Rosman

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rosman, who took down 259th ranked Rosman, 10-7. Day Day Williams ran for 26 yards and caught four passes for 62 yards in the win.

Hayesville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in 1A Smoky Mountain. The Yellowjackets defeated the Tigers 10-7 earlier in the week.

Hayesville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Caleb Nuklolls chipped in 57 yards. Nuklolls helped Hayesville's passing attack out by catching one ball for six yards.

Zach Wall put up the best numbers through the air as Ernie Hughes's team bested Rosman. He finished with five completions for 68 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Wall and Nuklolls the Yellowjackets have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Wall leads the league in passing with 362 yards, while Nuklolls has rushed for 437 yards this season. Swain County's Greg Tisho leads the league in receiving yards with 211 on nine catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Maroon Devils take on Hayesville. Swain County is currently in first, while the Yellowjackets are in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when Neil Blankenship's team and Hayesville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Maroon Devils comes in having scored 76 this season, while the Yellowjackets have scored 93. Swain County scored 54 points last week as it topped Pikeville.

Hayesville moved up to 289 from 364 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 10-7 win over Freddie Whitman's team helped the Yellowjackets improve their standing.
