Football Recap: Beatrice Takes a Loss

Beatrice extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-6. They were dealt a 49-7 loss at the hands of the Waverly Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Orangemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Vikings are ranked fifth).

When it comes to explaining why Beatrice lost, don't look at Merrick Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown.

As for Waverly, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 38.7 points this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waverly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nathan Axmann, who rushed for 102 yards and three scores on only ten carries. Brockston Teply was another key player, throwing for 174 yards and three TDs on only 13 passes.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beatrice will venture away from home to square off against Norris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Orangemen will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Waverly, they will head out on the road to challenge Plattsmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Axmann and Levi Walker.
