Recap: Melrose Golden Wildcats vs. Ridgeway Roadrunners
It was a good run, but the Melrose Golden Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 74-61 to Ridgeway. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Melrose still got an impressive performance from Devin Sanders Jr, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Sanders Jr is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. William Carver was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with three steals.
Ridgeway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brian Carter, Jr., who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Carter, Jr. has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emanuel Allen, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Melrose's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-6. As for Ridgeway, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melrose will square off against Trezevant at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Trezevant has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Ridgeway, they will head out on the road to take on Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
