Football Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mater Academy East Las Vegas walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Sports Leadership & Management Bulls with a sharp 30-6 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Knights have won ten contests by more than 19 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cheyanne Thornhill was her usual excellent self, throwing for 256 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of her passes, and also rushing for 60 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. She has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last seven times she's played.

Another reason for the win was Mater Academy East Las Vegas' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Serina Mendez.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points over those games. As for Sports Leadership & Management, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-11.

Coming up, Mater Academy East Las Vegas will face off against Boulder City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Boulder City comes in on three and Mater Academy East Las Vegas on seven.
