Basketball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Sutton Mustangs

Sandy Creek is 2-8 against Sutton since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Sandy Creek Cougars will challenge the Sutton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Sandy Creek will be strutting in after a win while Sutton will be coming in after a defeat.

Sandy Creek will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Fairbury, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Sandy Creek managed a 50-44 victory over Fairbury on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sutton lost to Milford on the road by a 62-43 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Eagles are ranked ninth).

Sandy Creek's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Sutton, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.

Things could have been worse for Sandy Creek, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-29 loss to Sutton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Sandy Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
