Recap: Collins Tigers vs. Purvis Tornadoes
The Collins Tigers waltzed into their game Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Purvis out 66-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Collins' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Latreyveon Lowe, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan White, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacoby Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Robinson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bredren Elenus , who scored 15 points.
Collins pushed their record up to 9-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Purvis, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Collins won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jefferson Davis County at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Jefferson Davis County is ranked 120th, while Collins is ranked 106th). As for Purvis, they will head out on the road to face off against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
