Puckett is a perfect 4-0 against Union since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolves are taking a road trip to challenge the Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. Puckett knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Union likes a good challenge.
If Puckett beats Union with 11 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Wolves' way against Lake on Thursday as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by seven runs or more this season.
Lila Murphy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raegan Hardin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Brooke Shivers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Puckett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Union made easy work of Quitman on Thursday and carried off an 18-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellowjackets.
Destiny Moulds was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Aspen Lovern also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Puckett's record now sits at 20-3. As for Union, their record is now 9-11-1.
Union's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Puckett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Union, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Puckett keep running through batters, or will the Yellowjackets buck the trend?
Everything went Puckett's way against Union in their previous meeting back in April of 2016, as Puckett made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
