The Southeast Pirates will head out to take on the Crestview Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Southeast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Southeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Newton Falls with a sharp 16-2 win on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Savannah Powell looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Southeast got a massive performance out of Ava Stephens, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Muncy, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.
Southeast was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newton Falls only posted a batting average of .263.
Meanwhile, Crestview fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Salem on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Quakers by a score of 5-4. That makes it the first time this season the Rebels have let down their home crowd.
Makayla Mckee spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Crestview saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Smith, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Rylee Cloutier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Southeast pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Crestview, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-2-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southeast hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southeast couldn't quite finish off Crestview in their previous matchup back in May of 2019 and fell 2-0. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
