            The Cardinal Newman Cardinals will square off against the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 2:30  p.m.  on Saturday. Cardinal Newman's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5  runs per game  this season, so Elk Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Cardinal Newman's offense. They fell just short of College Park by a score of  2-0 on Thursday. Cardinals fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Falcons since  on Thursday.
 Cardinal Newman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jace Wooley, who  went 2-for-3 with one  stolen base. That  stolen base was  Wooley's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Elk Grove sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  7-5  win over Davis Sr.  last Tuesday. The  victory made it back-to-back  wins for the Thundering Herd.
Elk Grove also got a great performance from  Cooper Gannon as he  tossed five innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   six  hits. Gannon also  tossed  no  walks, which is notable because Elk Grove is 2-1 when he allows at  most  one  walk, but 1-2 otherwise.
 At the plate,  the team  relied heavily on  Brent Martin, who  went 1-for-4 with one  triple, two  RBI,  and one  run.  Matt Soares was another key player,  scoring a  run while going 3-for-4.
 Cardinal Newman's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Elk Grove,  the  victory also got them back to even at 3-3.
 Cardinal Newman skirted past Elk Grove  5-3 in their previous matchup  back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cardinal Newman since the  squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
