Basketball Recap: Ashlee Johnson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cabell Midland

Winfield's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cabell Midland Knights, sneaking past 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Generals have posted since January 25, 2024.

Winfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlee Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. That's the most points Johnson has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Canterbury, who posted nine points along with six assists and three steals.

Winfield is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Cabell Midland, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

When Winfield and Cabell Midland next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Winfield will try to stop Wayne's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Cabell Midland will try to stop Nitro's six-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
