 On Tuesday, Smithfield faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Smithfield Sentinels fell just short of the East Greenwich Avengers by a score of  6-4. Smithfield's defeat continues a  trend for the  team, making it three in a row.
  Lily Riggin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and  went 1-for-3 with three  RBI and a  triple.
 On East Greenwich's side,  Ava Fairbanks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She  struck out 13 batters over  seven innings while giving up  four earned runs off   three  hits. Fairbanks has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't  pitched less than five  innings in 15 consecutive pitching appearances. Fairbanks was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs while  getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Margaret Neville, who  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI and a  double. Another player making a difference was  Sarah Levy, who  went 1-for-3 with a  triple and two  RBI.
 Smithfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for East Greenwich, they have  been performing  well recently as they've  won three of their last four games,  which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record  this season.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will  challenge Prout at 4:30  p.m.  on Wednesday. Prout is coming into the  matchup with three straight  defeats at home,  meaning Smithfield will have to defend against a  team hungry for a  victory. As for East Greenwich, they will head out on the road to  square off against  North Kingstown at 4:15  p.m.  on Thursday.
