Basketball Recap: Southern Comes Up Short

If Southern was feeling good fresh off their 49-16 takedown of Arundel last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Southern Bulldogs fell 38-31 to the Northeast Eagles on Monday. The game was a 18-18 toss-up at halftime, but the Bulldogs couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, Southern saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Huntyr Marks posted 23 points.

Northeast was led to victory by Brynn Jones and Nadia Sogbo. Jones went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and six steals, while Sogbo earned 13 points and six steals. Jones has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played.

Southern's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Northeast, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-6.

Southern has already played their next match, a 39-25 loss against Severna Park on the 14th. As for Northeast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-11 defeat against Broadneck on the 14th.
