The Miami Country Day Spartans will face off against the Benjamin Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Miami Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Benjamin likes a good challenge.
Miami Country Day is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Florida's top teams: Cardinal Gibbons, who was ranked 21st at the time (Miami Country Day was ranked 22nd). Miami Country Day took a 71-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cardinal Gibbons on Monday.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Daltyn Simon, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaim Galbut, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.
Even though they lost, Miami Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Benjamin entered their tilt with St. Edward's on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged the Pirates out 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buccaneers have posted since December 11, 2023.
Benjamin found their leader in sophomore Logan Buchanan, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Buchanan has scored all season. Drew Buchanan was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 17 boards.
Miami Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Benjamin, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Miami Country Day hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 69.6 points per game. However, it's not like Benjamin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.8 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Miami Country Day against Benjamin in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, as the squad secured an 88-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miami Country Day since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
