Baseball Recap: Chatham's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to 15

Chatham came tearing into Thursday's match with 14 straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since May 11, 2024.

Logan Smalley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Jacob Carroll was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Wilber, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Chatham pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
