Baseball Game Preview: Dunellen Destroyers vs. Timothy Christian

Dunellen is 7-1 against Timothy Christian since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Destroyers are taking a road trip to take on Timothy Christian at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dunellen has five straight wins, Timothy Christian has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Dunellen's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Perth Amboy Vo-Tech as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Destroyers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cole Mayer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Mayer was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Shealy, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michael Dow, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Dunellen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Timothy Christian lost 21-4 to Somerset Tech on Tuesday.

Timothy Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Dunellen, their record now sits at 6-3.

Everything went Dunellen's way against Timothy Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, as Dunellen made off with a 12-3 win. Will the Destroyers repeat their success, or do Timothy Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
