Softball Recap: Central's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Central had lost eight games straight , but after bumping their record up to 7-14 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 7-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Yanely Felix spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaylani Torres was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Thalisa Soto, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Palo Verde Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

On Palo Verde Valley's side, Yasleen Reyes put in work no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits Reyes has allowed since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Reyes wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jesslyn Flores, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against Palo Verde Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
