Softball Recap: Fulshear Now 12-2 over Last 14 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fulshear had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past the Katy Taylor Mustangs 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since February 21st.

Brinley Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Castillo (OSU), who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Stratman (ETBU), who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Fulshear is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Katy Taylor, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-7.

Fulshear will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
