Baseball Recap: Gateway Extends Winning Streak to Four

Gateway had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Dunbar Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 27-2 back in February.

Gateway got a great performance from Brady Miller as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-low in walks (one).

On the hitting side, Juan Carlos Lineras and Otniel Diaz did most of the damage at the plate: Lineras scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Diaz scored a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Diaz has posted since back in April of 2024. Antony Leiderman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Gateway's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.33 hits in those games compared to only 5.2 in the others. As for Dunbar, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gateway will face off against Lely at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gateway is facing Lely at the right time seeing as Lely is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Dunbar, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Dunbar Tigers duke it out with East Lee County Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
