Softball Recap: Point Pleasant Big Blacks vs. Independence Patriots
If Point Pleasant was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Robert C. Byrd on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Point Pleasant took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Independence Patriots on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-6 last Wednesday.
Callie Hall and Kyla Queen did some serious damage despite the final result: Hall went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Queen scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Queen also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Chloe Patrick was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Even though they lost, Point Pleasant hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post two or more strikeouts.
Point Pleasant's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. As for Independence, their record now sits at 9-1.
Coming up, Point Pleasant will take on Sissonville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Independence, they will challenge Lewis County at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
