Baseball Recap: Leon Cougars vs. Lovelady Lions
Leon extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Lovelady Lions. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 12, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Leon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Whyte, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Lovelady, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.
On Lovelady's side, Lance Pierce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Pierce has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brady McCullough was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Gilchrist, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Leon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lovelady, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Normangee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
