Softball Recap: Westfall Takes a Loss

Westfall extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They came up short against the Hillsboro Indians, falling 6-0. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 7-6 to the Indians when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hillsboro, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Their pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

For Hillsboro's part, Camryn Spruell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Spruell has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabelle Brunck, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addie Huff, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Coming up, Westfall will welcome Zane Trace at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hillsboro, they will venture away from home to take on Goshen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
