Softball Recap: Vardaman Find Success

Vardaman took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Bruce, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vardaman Rams had just enough and edged out the Bruce Trojans 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted against the Trojans since March 20, 2021.

Addi Lucius spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She also tossed four walks, marking her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Vardaman let Maggie Edmondson and Haley Parker run wild. Edmondson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Parker scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Edmondson also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Makayla Johnson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Vardaman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Vardaman's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Bruce, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Vardaman will welcome Bruce at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bruce, they will head out on the road to challenge Houlka at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Bruce is facing Houlka at the right time seeing as Houlka is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
