Basketball Recap: Bessemer Academy Comes Up Short

Bessemer Academy and Valiant Cross Academy squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Bessemer Academy had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Valiant Cross Academy Warriors and fell 67-40.

Despite the loss, Bessemer Academy still got an impressive performance from Joshua Thompson, who posted 14 points. Jacob Rowell also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Valiant Cross Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deshawn Hall led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. The contest was Hall's ninth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Archie, who went 9-for-12 to rack up 18 points and five rebounds.

Bessemer Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 17-3. As for Valiant Cross Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-6.

Bessemer Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Valiant Cross Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-46 victory against Hooper Academy on the 13th.
