Basketball Recap: Lewis County's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lewis County had won four straight games and Ella Pinkney did her part to make it five on Monday. The Lewis County Minutemen breezed past the Preston Knights to the tune of 75-30 for which the team can thank Pinkney, who en route to 22 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Lewis County is 9-1 when Pinkney posts five or more steals, but 4-7 otherwise.

Paelyn Hinkle was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds. What's more, she posted two steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Preston's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cameryn Sypolt, who put up ten points and seven boards, and Kendra Nazelrod, who had four points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Nazelrod is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Lewis County pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 43.3 points. As for Preston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.

Lewis County and Preston are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lewis County will host Frankfort at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lewis County is facing Frankfort at the right time seeing as Frankfort is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Preston, they will face off against Wheeling Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wheeling Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Preston likes a good challenge.
