Baseball Recap: Oxford Has No Trouble Against Port Huron

Oxford won the last time they faced Port Huron and things went their way on Saturday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Red Hawks with a sharp 13-1 win. That looming 13-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Cole Hatfield tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Oxford got a big performance out of Parker Bennion, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Bennion has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Beall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Oxford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oxford has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Port Huron, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Looking ahead, Oxford will be playing at home against Utica at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Port Huron, they will head out to face off against Marine City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Hawks will need to watch out since the Mariners have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.
