Softball Recap: Valley Center Takes a Loss

Valley Center extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 12-9. They came up short against the Great Bend Panthers, falling 13-3. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

As for Great Bend, their victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-1. Considering they have won 20 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Great Bend's part, Alyssa McCauley made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, McCauley posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Katherine Mazouch was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Callie Umphres, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Valley Center does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Great Bend, they will square off against Eisenhower at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
