Flag Football Game Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. San Marcos Knights

The Escondido Cougars will square off against the San Marcos Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Escondido took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They snuck past Rancho Buena Vista with a 12-6 victory.

Escondido's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abby White led the charge by throwing for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 72.2% of her passes. That's the most passing yards White has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Diaz, who picked up 60 receiving yards and two TDs.

Meanwhile, San Marcos got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. They managed a 31-26 win over Torrey Pines. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Falcons are ranked 19th).

Escondido pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points on average over those games. As for San Marcos, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
