Softball Game Preview: Wellington Wolverines vs. Centennial Eagles

Wellington is a perfect 5-0 against Centennial since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Wellington's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Centennial has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Wellington heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Wednesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jupiter.

Catalina Baronci made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabi De Los Reyes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Centennial didn't have quite enough to beat Vero Beach on Thursday and fell 5-4.

Makayla Megnauth put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Myrna Pratt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Emma Hazelton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Wellington beat Centennial 6-2 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
