Softball Recap: Angola Takes a Loss

Angola had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it seven. They fell 4-1 to the Garrett Railroaders. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

As for Garrett, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Garrett's part, Ashlee Vanderbosch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. Vanderbosch has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Grindstaff, who fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah DePew, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Angola will take on Leo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Garrett, they will face off against DeKalb at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
