Softball Preview: Ash Fork/Seligman Spartans vs. St. David Tigers

The Ash Fork/Seligman Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the St. David Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ash Fork/Seligman can't be too worried about heading out to take on St. David: they just beat El Capitan at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Spartans blew past the Eagles 16-4 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Aura Mendez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Mendez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Ash Fork/Seligman got a big performance out of Gracie Staples, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Jordyn Vazquez was another key player, getting on base in three of her seven plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Ash Fork/Seligman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
