Softball Recap: San Dieguito Academy Wins Going Away Against Liberty Charter

While San Dieguito Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Liberty Charter Lions on Wednesday as the San Dieguito Academy Mustangs made off with a 12-1 win. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

Joie Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other pitching news, Lilly Besemer looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kegan Herceg, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lauryn McGarry, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

San Dieguito Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Charter only posted a batting average of .167.

The victory (which was San Dieguito Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 6-1-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.67 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.2 in the others. As for Liberty Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, San Dieguito Academy will welcome Fallbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. San Dieguito Academy will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Liberty Charter, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will challenge Madison at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
