The China Spring Cougars will face off against the McGregor Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. China Spring is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
While China Spring didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-21-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Coldspring-Oakhurst by a score of 7-3 on Thursday.
Sophia Garcia and Brooklyn Jamerson did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Jamerson scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jaelynn Faulkner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
China Spring was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, McGregor put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hutto an 11-0 shutout. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.
Khloe Peterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Addyson Todd was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Allyson Zoch was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
China Spring has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. McGregor's victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. China Spring hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like McGregor struggles in that department as they've averaged .537. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
China Spring beat McGregor 6-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Does China Spring have another victory up their sleeve, or will McGregor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
