Basketball Game Preview: Corinth Holders Pirates vs. Garner Trojans

The Corinth Holders Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Garner Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Corinth Holders came up short against Clayton and fell 62-53. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their loss, Corinth Holders saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jada Vanderhorst, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards, was perhaps the best of all. Vanderhorst is becoming a predictor of Corinth Holders' success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 4-2 (and 4-5 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Darla Lee, who went 10 for 24 en route to 25 points.

Even though they lost, Corinth Holders smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Garner played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Southeast Raleigh and fell 70-22. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Corinth Holders, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 8-7.

Everything went Corinth Holders' way against Garner in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Corinth Holders made off with a 61-41 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Garner's Olivia Jacobs, who posted 31 points and eight boards.
