Basketball Recap: Boca Ciega Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Boca Ciega and Blake squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Boca Ciega had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Blake Yellow Jackets and fell 90-55. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 29th).

Blake got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua Lewis out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. The match was Lewis' third in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Philon, who posted 14 points in addition to six boards and six blocks.

Boca Ciega's loss dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Blake, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 24-4.

Boca Ciega does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Blake, they will square off against Gibbs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gibbs knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 contests -- so hopefully Blake likes a good challenge.
