Baseball Recap: Avalon Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jackson-Reed, Avalon was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers. The victory continues a trend for the Black Knights in their matchups with the Mighty Hoppers: they've now won four in a row.

Evan Stepanik 1 looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Avalon's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Javeth Carrion, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Judah Knight, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Avalon's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Georgetown Day, they moved to 6-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avalon will face off against Landon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Georgetown Day, they will square off against St. Andrew's Episcopal at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Mighty Hoppers are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
