Softball Recap: Montverde Academy Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Montverde Academy's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Orange Beach on Tuesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Trinity Catholic Celtics with a sharp 10-2 win. Considering the Eagles have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Miranda Murch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Montverde Academy let Luna Taboas and Addison Poe run wild. Taboas scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Poe went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Taboas is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Leila Susaia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Montverde Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Catholic only posted a batting average of .250.

Montverde Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Trinity Catholic, they moved to 15-7 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Montverde Academy and Trinity Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Eagles (ranked third) will meet Eustis (ranked 40th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic will take on Ridgeview at 6:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (38 vs. 224).
