Basketball Game Preview: Dexter Tigers vs. Penquis Valley Patriots

Dexter has gone 10-0 against Penquis Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Dexter Tigers will be playing at home against the Penquis Valley Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Dexter is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Mattanawcook on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Dexter lost 68-43 to Mattanawcook. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Lynx: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Dexter had strong showings from Isiah Robinson, who went 10 of 12 en route to 25 points and five rebounds, and Bryce Cooper, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 14 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Robinson a new career-high in points.

Penquis Valley might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 82-30 to Schenck, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Wolverines are ranked ninth).

Penquis Valley's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Dexter, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Dexter strolled past Penquis Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 49-32. Does Dexter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Penquis Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
